O ratinho marrom: origens e raízes

Vira e mexe alguém inculca com o nome da empresa. “Little Brown Mouse?”

Na verdade, vamos voltar a fita.

Muita gente demora um tempo para ter a curiosidade em saber o que significa LBM. “LBM?” Ah sim, “Little Brown Mouse”. Mas e aí? Qual é a do ratinho marrom? O que ele tem que os ratinhos brancos, pretos e malhados não têm?

Nós amamos todas as cores de ratinhos, mas o ratinho marrom é especial em nossos corações porque ele é um dos protagonistas no livro infantil “O grúfalo” (“The gruffalo”, no original). O outro protagonista é (SHOCKER) o grúfalo. O grúfalo é um monstrão grande, assustador, dono da floresta. Mas de onde ele saiu?

Curiosamente, da imaginação do ratinho. Confrontado por bichos predadores durante sua caminhada pela floresta, o ratinho vai engenhosamente se esquivando através da narrativa de que encontraria um certo “grúfalo”, uma criatura horrenda que ele vai descrevendo para os seus predadores para assustá-los e ser deixado em paz. A criatividade vai longe e, a cada predador encontrado, as características do tal companheiro do ratinho que está prestes a chegar se agravam e ficam mais ameaçadoras.

Ele pode ter defeito, mas é meu amigo.

Mas eis que, quando todos os predadores foram engambelados, surge quem? O G-R-Ú-F-A-L-O. E ele é tão raiz quanto o ratinho o havia descrito, e está pronto para fazer sanduíche de mouse. E agora, como se livrar da criatura mais assustadora da floresta? Acho que não é exagero dizer que a mente que criou o grúfalo poderia dar conta dele também. Numa sacada genial, o minúsculo ratinho diz ao grúfalo que ele não sabe com quem está mexendo. Como prova, pede que o grúfalo o siga pela floresta, pois assim ele veria que todos os animais tinham medo dele. Dito e feito: os predadores, que já haviam se reunido e manjado o esquema do ratinho, já o esperavam para o bote no caminho de volta. Ao baterem o olho no ratinho acompanhado do grúfalo, eles somem com os rabos literalmente entre as pernas e o ratinho retorna são e salvo, com histórias para contar por muitas gerações.

O livro de Julia Donaldson é um clássico britânico traduzido para diversas línguas. Aqui em território brazuca, ele pode ser encontrado em português nas principais livrarias. É um texto incrível, todo rimado, com ilustrações lindonas de Alex Scheffler. O livro ganhou um curta-metragem há alguns anos com narração da diva Helena Bonham-Carter, com visual muito fiel ao livro, que vale muito a pena ver.
