Anyways, vida que segue né, amoras? Esta semana, chegamos chegando com uma dobradinha nas estreias: um nacional e um internacional; um documentário e uma ficção; uma protagonista mulher e um protagonista homem. Affe, diz aí: é muita versatilidade, né não?

Depois de um longo trajeto (o documentário concorreu no festival É Tudo Verdade, passou pelo Festival do Rio e pela Mostra de SP), o filme “Maria – Não se Esqueça que Eu Venho dos Trópicos” finalmente chega ao circuito cult nacional. A produção é uma visão geral sobre a carreira e vida pessoal da artista brasileira Maria Martins, pouco conhecida no próprio país, mas um expoente internacional no mundo das artes. Para simplificar, a mulher era um lacre sem fim. No começo do século passado, ela se divorciou de um homem poderoso, casou de novo, virou escultora, teve ateliê em NY, onde reunia a nata da arte mundial, tinha um casamento aberto e teve um romance com Marcel Duchamp, tendo sido uma grande influenciadora da arte dele (e não o contrário, valeu, críticos machistas do universo?). A obra de Maria Martins foi uma parte importante do nosso surrealismo, e se conectava com a sexualidade humana em vários níveis. Em sua crítica ao filme, Leonardo Ribeiro aponta: “Se valendo de um vasto acervo de imagens dos trabalhos, cartas, vídeos e fotografias particulares, o longa transmite com eficácia o olhar instigante e o desejo de subversão da protagonista, externado através da exploração do corpo humano (…).” Em tempos de reacionarismo quase medieval na nossa sociedade, em que a nudez e a relação orgânica com o corpo nu têm sido colocadas em foco como algo problemático, entrar em contato com a obra de Maria pode ser um sopro de ar fresco. A produção é falada em português e inglês, e ganhou legendas by LBM nas duas línguas para ser exibido internacionalmente e agora por aqui, em salas selecionadas.
Hoje também, a Diamond Films traz para as telonas “Uma Razão Para Viver”. O drama no estilo cinematográfico britânico num estilo mais clássico foi dirigido por Andy Serkis, responsável pela caracterização de personagens épicos como a criatura Gollum (“O Senhor dos Anéis”) e o macaco César (“Planeta dos Macacos”). É no mínimo surpreendente que alguém associado a criações tão futuristas tenha dado início à sua carreira de diretor com um filme tão conservador, ainda retratando a trajetória de um homem que fica tetraplégico por causa da polio. Ou seja: zero movimento! 😨
O fato obviamente não passou despercebido por nenhum crítico. Dessa vez, no entanto, preferimos focar na reação do coração. Trouxemos para vocês o vídeo do canal The Reel Rejects, com o pessoal reagindo ao trailer em tempo real e fazendo comentários interessantes sobre Andrew Garfield! Sem spoilers, em inglês.

O filme tem um pano de fundo histórico, da época em que o Quênia era uma colônia britânica, mas o foco é a história pessoal do casal central. Apesar da gravidade da doença, os personagens são bem-humorados. Isso ajudou na tradução! Claro que, por ser um filme de época, foi preciso tomar cuidado com o registro, mas a linguagem dos diálogos era irreverente. A parte mais complicada foi a terminologia relativa ao cuidado médico, mas não era um jargão maçante que pesava no filme. Além disso, a fotografia é linda, e isso trazia leveza pra um tema tão complicado.
