Shortly after Ligia met Renan through João, LBM’s linguistics consultant, she commissioned him to design a notepad to be sent as a gift to clients. Renan’s inner designer got the best of him. As part of that project, he did a full study of the brand’s namesake rodent mascot that makes up its logo. “Ligia must’ve thought I was crazy,” he says, jokingly.
She actually did not. In fact, Ligia hired him for several other jobs, including a revamp of the company website. But if the website was to be overhauled, Renan argued at the time, so should the brand identity. The existing one lacked versatility. What you see here now, from the color palette to the new mouse logo, is the outcome of that endeavor.
Renan graduated from high school with a technical degree in entrepreneurship. As part of that program, he drew up a business plan for an interior design firm. That cemented his decision to pursue a career path in the visual arts. Two years into the Arts Education, Drawing Concentration program at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, he realized that graphic design was his true calling. He decided to enroll in design courses from the Visual Communications program, and seven terms (3 1/2 years) later, he was finally allowed to change majors.
Renan considers himself a workaholic, or rather, a work-from-home-aholic. From his bedroom/office in Rio de Janeiro, he enjoys the beautiful hillside view of the Tijuca neighborhood. He admits to being a bit selective as to his friends and professional connections. “I devote myself heart and soul to my clients,” he says, “You can see that on the LBM logo. I left no room for doubt.”
