What Paula does could be considered the soul of LBM’s work. She’s the one who translates and revises a lot of what you see on-screen when Little Brown Mouse is involved. She’s in charge of LBM’s quality control – that is, going over everything with a fine-tooth comb before final delivery [learn more about QC here]. She’s dedicated her entire professional career to AV translation, which she considers a pleasurable and dynamic line of work. She also finds it rewarding to provide this service to those who otherwise wouldn’t have access to this content.
Paula studied Language Studies and Translation at PUC-RIO, where she met João Artur, former Project Manager at LBM. He introduced Paula to Ligia, who invited her to work for LBM as a freelancer in 2016. Two years later, Ligia invited her to join the staff on a full-time basis.
LBM, to Paula, is like family. She feels respected and accepted as she is, judgment-free. She’s also free to provide criticism, make suggestions, and exchange ideas.
And speaking of ideas, Paula replenishes her own supply through reading—her bookshelves currently hold over 400 books! Her favorite pastime is putting her feet up and reading books, or watching TV shows and movies. Some of her favorite books are Stephen King’s It and J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. When it comes to TV, it’s Friends, hands down.
As the mind of a translator is always at work, reading and watching TV also gives Paula opportunities to learn new words, check texts for fluency, and watch for pitfalls and false cognates. She does all this in the company of the loves of her life – the cats Arya, Zelda, and Galadriel.
